(Home) Rocker cover gasket and other seals

Is there any way I can get a rocker cover gasket for my townie?

I have oil seeping out from the old one.

I know I could use instant gasket, but would like to get a proper gasket if possible.

I got one for mine from the local Toyota dealer, though it was about a tenner if memory serves. I havent got around to fitting it yet as it looks like a bugger of a job. I wouldn't advise instant gasket as the original is a moulded rubber one that fits into a groove and you would never get a decent seal.

Do you remember the details?

Perhaps a part number or anything?

Or did you just ask for a rocker cover gasket for a Townie?

yes, it does look like a bugger of a job for doing something so relatively simple.

steve. you could try just tightening the cover down slightly and this might, temporarily, stop the leak while you investigate the availability of a new gasket. i have part no 11213-64040 for this gasket, covering the 2c series engine from 1988-91

Thanks for the part number.

I have tightened it as far as I can and it still weeps out.

The rocker cover will not move any more by overtightening as the rocker studs have a shoulder on them. The washers under the nuts have rubber on one side to seal them so it is worth changing these also. There is a half circular plug that plugs the drilling at the back of the head for the camshaft. This is a possible leakage route if the leak is comming from the back. This plug is just sealed with liquid gasket on the cuved surface but unlickly if it has not been disturbed.
