(Home) Overheating engines after '91? 2CT/3CT/3CT-E

Been looking on Ace Answers for info on townies But all relate to pre-1991 models. I,ve ordered an import that according to VIN number is Jan.1995. 2.2 litre deisel. Does anyone have info as to if the overheating problem was improved on or if there are any other problems to look out for. thanks in advance.

Nope, still suffer same problems, so you need to take the same reasonable precautions as anyone with the 2CT engine. The 2.2 is a 3CT engine, longer stroke version of the 2CT. Same head troubles if left without a little TLC. There are simple measures that can be taken to ensure that the head problem does not appear. Look on Ace Answers for the various methods.

Toyota did not really cure the head problem until the 3CT-E engine came along in the 95 onwards Lucidas, this was an EDC version of the engine with improved head design.

HTH Rob.

P.S. just because the heads are a bit weak on Townies, don't be put off.

Just an update on my townie that I,ve ordered , it,s a Townace Super Extra, 2.2 deisel Automatic, blue over silver. It has passed the M.O.T. and am now waiting for it to go for the SVA so that it can be registered and age related number plates fitted. Hopefully I can take posession next Friday (21st).Looking forward to getting out on the road with it and hopefully meeting other owners.
p.s. thanks for the info Rob.
