(Home) Tracking, scrubbed tyres

Had 2 tyres fitted today and the tracking checked as my front tyres have been wearing unevenly on the inside. I was told that the tracking was spot on, so I pointed out the obvious wear on the side of one of the tyres. He then said he would adjust the tracking with an incorrect setting to see if it cures the problem. I am to monitor the situation and see if the Townie drives straight, if it does not, he said something about the Townie having adjustable springs and he would try adjusting them?

Anyone know if this sounds logical?

Springs? Torsion bars yes but they shouldn't effect the wear on the tyres. If he's willing to go that far then get him to check it all - ride height, camber, toe-in. Specs are in the archives.

Had the same problem. My tracking was out and a good mechanic sorted it for £10. He did mention that having Power steering scrubs the tyres hard and I should watch where I regularly turn hard. I did - just outside work I turn on full lock to get parked. Now I take it easy!

Is somebody able to tell me what the tracking 'numbers' or 'setting' for a H reg Townie ought to be? I just came from the garage and he didn't have a clue. If someone could put it across in simple terms please, so that I can just pass the info on to the mechanic...I read some of the previous posts and I am sorry but I can't fathom it.

Cheers,
