is this a "car show" of townies at the rally, thinking of coming along if i'm not away, but my beast is not exactly showroom condition, (previous owner was a nursing home, just used it as a minibus)! wouldn't want to let the side down!

No it's not part of the judged car show. Just a group of owners putting on a stand. Don't worry about condition you should see some of the states on the MG and Capri stands!
You have to preregister and that cut off date is fast approaching.
