(Home) Spark plugs

Vehicle: 1997 1.8litre Twn/ace GL
Tried using Bosch PLATIN side of plug:FR8DPX Germany R3 385 installed by my mechanic. worked great about 2 weeks and increased mileage. But suddenly, vehicle would not drive properly and would shut off on moving off. Had to pump the gas pedal to get home. changed to NGK and was okay. Any comments on the Bosch plugs?

I also get about 250-260 KM in town and with the Bosch about 300 KM for a tank of gas.

I tried several plugs on my 2.0 Spacecruiser 3y engine, and I found that NGK were the best. I think the higher running temp wrecks the other makes. I always found burn markings on the white ceramic upper part and worn electrodes on the business end on all makes bar NGK. Don't know about fuel comsumption on your engine.

Funny thing that. All plugs are meant to be equal, but the amount of anecdotal evidence that says use only NGK or Denso in Japanese cars and bikes is astounding...

Yep have to agree. I've had numerous Jap cars - Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Subaru - anything other than NGK gives bother. I've been given the same advice by many including a tuning outfit with a Bosch franchise - only run Jap cars on NGK plugs.

I have been running my 2.0 litre petrol Royal Lounge 4x4 Auto with Champion plugs for 2 years with no prob's. Is my Ace an exception to the rule? Always starts first time, runs great, and I am getting 30 mpg.
