(Home) Unidentified switch and using K&N air filter for Fiat Bravo

I have a 1992 Townace Royal Lounge with 2 litre 4WD 5 speed petrol engine . Next to the 4WD selector button on the dashboard is a a small round 2-way rocker switch (about the size of a penny) which has a very small, raised, red plastic spot on it. Does anybody know what it is? The red plastic spot (lens) does not light up whichever way the switch is pressed. Thanks.
For anyone who is interested in mpg figures, mine are as follows: Most daily journeys average 4-6 miles (to work and back). I get 220-230 kilometres out of every 25 litre of unleaded petrol - which is about 26 mpg.

Mike, if the switch in your Royal Lounge does not appear to function then I guess that it is an after market item that the previous owner had fitted for possibly driving or spot lamps. I also have a petrol Royal Lounge 4x4 (Automatic) and I don't have the switch you mention, as for fuel consumption I get 28-30 mpg, however my engine is fitted with a K&N air filter and ecotech valve and it uses Magnatex oil mixed with Greased lightning oil additive. For those that want to know the K&N is a Fiat Brava / Bravo filter, a perfect fit for the Townie.

Bill. I think you're probably right and the switch is not standard equipment. Thanks for the info about the air cleaner - nobody else seems to have posted that information. Two more questions for you! (1) What speed do you travel at on the motorway? (2) Have you ever driven for long periods in 4WD and how does it affect the handling? By the way, I've just motored 300 miles on 'A' roads and motorway (50-70 mph) and I think I got about 35 mpg.

Mike, 35mpg is excelent for a petrol Townie. I do tend to drive my Townie faster than I should on the motorway, 75-80mph but I don't do a lot of motorway driving.I use the motorway mainly for holiday trips and I always change the engine oil and give the Townie a good check over before a long motorway trip. I have only used my 4x4 once. I live at the bottom of a hill in a cul-de-sac and it had been snowing overnight. I used the 4x4 to get up the hill so I could get to work in the morning. It worked fine and got me up the hill with no problems. Without the 4x4 I know that I would have been stranded at the bottom of the hill.
