5/20/04 4:45 AM no fan (sometimes)

Hi All

i still got no fan for the last 3months and looking at all, like fuses,re-settable circuit breakers, fan speed switch.

i took off the nose cone and took out n/s headlamp to see the fan air intake and i could see the fan blades
i put fan on and it would not turn so i put my hand up the air intake to move the fan and it went to full speed (almost took my fingers off)so i can safely say my fan problem is within the fan unit,i then removed the glove box and looked at the fan and how its fixed to the fan housing (by 3 screws)if you remove the screw in position 4 o'clock (screw nearist to cool box)
gently pull it away at the screw end it will come away in your hand and will uncover a secret inspection hole at the back of the fan motor,(make sure the fan is off)
i put my finger in the hole and pulled out a lump of hair and dirt i then sprayed electrical contact cleaner into this inspection hole and the dirt just flowed out, only had a small amount of contact cleaner so i need to buy a new tin,my fan is working better then before and i intend to investigate is more armed with a new tin and some wire wool to clean the bit that the brushes go on

sometimes when i go over pot holes the fan will jump into live and i was looking for bad connected wires or fan speed switch,it was only when i got a hand on the fan blade from the front near side head light that every time i touch the fan blades the fan would start up,i put this down to dirty electrical connections inside the fan unit due to the fact that the fan intake has no filter and over the years the inside of fan unit gets very dirty,i am going to empty another can of electrical contact cleaner into inspection panel that i found the other day.

everytime i clean it i notice that the fan is starting to work more often,it beats renewing the fan.
