(Home) Insurance on smashed Townace

hi guys.at 3-30 this morning some young kid with no license smashed into our lovely townace, smashing it up the kerb, into a lamp post, knocking it over.the townace is a write-off,with damage to both front door, front end,and bumper etc.the annoying thing is,the tailgate, sliding door, skylight window, interior etc,are all fine.not sure if direct line will let me do anything about any salvage, though.the engine has never given me a moment`s problems, and we`ve been all over the country in the few months we had it.
does anyone know how much insurance companies tend to pay out on townaces?the bodywork was great before the accident.it`s a 1987,e reg 2.0 petrol masterace surf with approx 92000 miles.i only paid £850 for it but would love to get my £350 excess that i`ll lose, back.
if anyone want any spares.i`ll try to find out where they tow it to.i`m in nottingham, and i think that they will tow it somewhere local to assess the damage.possibly ron brooks toyota in ilkeston, which is only 2 miles away, but i`ll let you know if i can.
either way,i hope to get another townie asap,as this one gave us nothing but pleasure.
bye for now

Sorry to hear your news. What value was your Townie insured for? Is it fully insured because you might have trouble claiming of the young lad if he was also uninsured as well as unlicenced. Your insurance company will look at this value of you Townie deduct excess and possibly depretiation costs and offer you the balance. I have my own Townie a 1989 Freg Royal Lounge 4x4 EFI insured at £5000.00 even though I paid only half of that when I bought it 3 years ago. Let us know how you get on.

What colour interior is yours, as one of the townie owns from the jam at brean is looking for the centre console round the gear stick....

This is a great shame Jamie, you have put so much into your van.
Insurance companies tend to look for the cheapest way out, so it depends on the value that you insured it for. Wait for them to come back with a settlement offer, then decide what you want to do.
One option to reclaim some of your losses is to claim salvage rights on the wreck. This will provide you with a host of spares to sell, which ought to be somewhat more than £350 excess you will loose, or to use on another townie if or when you decide to get one.
