(Home) 4WD in snow

Has anyone had trouble using the 4wd in snowy conditons during the snow in january,I was travelling up a slight incline when the wheels started slipping eventually changed to 4wd but ended up getting stuck.I drive a 2litre H reg turbo diesel liteace. It seems that the back end is to light to grip the road and that there is not enough weight over the front wheels either.

Not very topical considering it's a lovely day here!

I've had to use mine a few times to get out of snow/icy conditions. No problem whatever. Never even had to use the low gear shift ratio either.

It all depends on what sort of tires you have, some are no good on snow even with 4wd as the treads get clogged very easily and just become slicks. 4wd best in icey conditions and light mud, but not deep snow.

May seem like a silly question, but did you lock the front hubs? Otherwise the 4wd won't drive the front wheels.

Two Russian winters and no problems. I did get stuck last month for the first time. I tried to drive across a field that was VERY soft due to being wet from the snow just melting. The front tyres sank so far down that the undercarries of the vehicle were flat on the ground. All four tyres were spinning, but the townie wasn't moving. My mother-in-law said everyone in the village is still talking about the American that got stuck in their field.
