(Home) Hiace - what is this light

Hi,
I have a '89 Hiace turbo diesel limited edition import. Have had major problems getting it serviced or repaired as it's an import and no garages round here (Hereford) can help. Under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel is a panel with a few symbols (radiator, windscreen wiper reservior etc) one of these depicts an oil can over two wavy lines with a few drops coming out of the oil can spout. This started coming on periodically but now comes on every time the engine warms up. It's not oil or any of the usual suspects but I urgently need to find out what it could be as the van feels like its overheating and I don't have a clue what this could be. The manual is in Japanse and although I have spoken to the dealers who imported it they couldn't help (Bristol Imports who I found really unhelpful and couldn't give me a clue where to start) I have posted all over the net but no one seems to be able to help and I'm at my wits end. SO I would be really grateful if anyone has any ideas?!

Mary

Hello Mary,
the light is the oil level indicator, and usually comes on when the oil level is halfway between the low and full marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is on the full mark, then it is an indication that the oil is old and needs replacing.

Hi
Mine does this, it find it is when it is not quite stone cold but sort of half way, it will come on for 30 or so seconds, anyway just get the oil up to the correct level again and it will go away.
Do yoou think yours uses lots of oil, mine is running an expensive oil and boy it drinks it.
