(Home) Oil from gear box

I have found a gap in the bottom of the back of the gear box, where it meets the casing surrounding the drive-shaft. It looks as if the casing on the drive-shaft side is bent slightly, and oil is escaping. Nothing is on the floor in the morning, but I wiped a fair bit off the pipes beneath. I've just read where the dipstick is to check the level, but should I be panicking, or in a big hurry to get it fixed? The gears seem to be working fine. I did a 200 mile journey yesterday and plan to return tomorrow. A quick response would be appreciated so I can assess the situation before setting off for home.

Well, I'd check your level before returning.
Engine running at full operating temp after a run...go through gears whist stationary...engine still running...and dip. That will tell you if there is need to panic or not. Fluid needs to be at the hot marker on the stick.
Useful to wipe all residues clean so you will note from fresh residues where the leak is....
Probably wise to check again on the way home...picking up a top up bottle of 'dexron' atm fluid to take with you too...
