(Home) Oil change

can anyone tell me how much oil to put in my 2.2td townace, doing an oil and filter change at the weekend and have no idea how much it takes, also what grade oil recommended?

Ivan , if it's anything like a 2C you'll get a little change out of a gallon can. Gradewise, 10/40 or 15/40 at a minimum of CD is required (although that's an old spec and we're up to what? CF-4 and above now...)

Around 4.0 to 4.5 litres, with a filter change.
If you don't change the filter it should still be removed and drained of the old oil before refitting.
I use semi 10/30 or fully synthetic 5/40 oil, depends on what I can get on special offer on a 30 or 50 litre drum. Asda did do a special on Pennzoil but no longer stock it, I'm currently using Mobil.

thanks for the advice, should i flush or not?

I would flush as this the first time.
Further flushing depends on usage, shorts trips more flushing, long trips twice a year or so.

It means nothing in the case of the Townie, but we're up to API CG4 spec on mineral oils & CH for synthetics now Dave.

Anyone confused as to recent grading and specs should have a look at this castrol site.
