(Home) Hiace getting hot

Hi. I allso have problems with heat system in my hiace van, 2,4 diesel¨'94. The car is getting hot, but it is not in the red zone. When I open for the heating system (it is without aircon)the gauge drop to about normal. The only way I can drive in car is by having the heat on- and what a summer it will be :-((
I have checked for enough water, is going to get a new radiotor cap today. But what ells can it be.
I am thinking; change of thermostat, maybe radiator.

If I need to change the thermostat; then where is it and what do I need to remove to get to it.

Please help me.
Please help.

Hello Kasper,
it sounds like it could be the radiator fins have become blocked with muck and flies, if so carefully clean it off. It could be that the radiator is blocked inside so a descale might help. Do change the radiator cap and the thermostat and Oring, and make sure they are genuine Toyota parts.

I got the new radiator cap at toyota today and ask what they fought would solve the problem; they said, change the radiator, it is a common problem and a new radiator will fix it.

Still I am thinking that I should try the others things first, since they are much cheaper, or just chance it all.

That's what I would do, radiators and even recores aren't that cheap. have a look through the bumper grill to see if you can spot anything amiss. Then try a descale or two and refill with 50/50 antifreeze. Then keep an eye out for leaks on the driveway.

Today i went for a drive and let the car get hot. After that i went under the car and felt if the radiator was hot. In the area were the bottom hose go into the radiator it was cold and where the backrun is to the radiator cap it was a little hottere. Does this mean that the thermostate is not opening or could it be the radiator that is stopped. It looks like it is only some years old, no one of the lemels are broken.
