(Home) Vegetable oil as fuel

I am doing some 'research' into whether you can run Townies on a mix of, say, 30% diesel, 70% veg oil thinned with petrol/white spirit. Has anyone heard of anyone unscrupulous/tight enough to consider such a fuel for these noble machines? If so, what was the general verdict? (All for the purpose of academic research, of course!)

You should be able to run on pure Veg Oil. However it is not recommended as part of the refining process is to add water, not enough to see but maybe enough to emulsify your fuel!
I run on waste chip shop oil, that has been cleaned and filtered plus up to 5% white spirit, (as a trial I'm using less than 1% at the moment in this warm weather). In winter you may have to mix in 25% Derv to aid cold starting. All you need to do is pay 27.1p Road Fuel Tax per litre. If you use new oil you have to pay this on top of the purchase price of the oil or face a term in prison!
