hi fellow townies, i have a 1989 toyota town ace 2.0 td super extra. she's been off the road for a while and am in the process of getting her back on the road for a fun summer. i was cleaining her out yesterday and due to the warm weather, i opened the electric front windows, of which the passenger side one will not close. i have tried stripping the door down to find the motor, with no luck and also checked the fuses and the switch, which are okay. can anyone possibly help me please???? sob and cries. richie. thank you.

Hello Richie,
in the area of the fuse box, there are a number of relays. They are metal oval things with a small hole in them. It could be that one of them needs resetting. To do this push a match, pin or wire into the hole.

Hello Richie,
If fuses and relays ok, what just happened with mine was the glass came off the electric window runner, possibly that's what happened to yours and you will have to line the glass up with the runner(i put some grease in the rubber runner and the glass popped in nicely.

i've got a similar problem with the passenger's side electric window. it won't open. assuming that the problem is an actuator, or a regulator, how do i get at them? (all cbs have been checked with no luck)

tryed pushing the window lock button on drivers door

Yes; I tried that before anything else. Do you know how to remove the trim to get at the actuator/regulator?

Before you stip everything apart
Un-hook the switch from the trim panel and lift out then seperate from wire plug at the bottom.
Very carefully seperate the body apart so that you can veiw the internals where you will see two w shaped metal pins drop out and check to see if corroded and green etc.
Scrub with a very fine wire wool and a little auto solvol.
Check the plastic rocker switch assembly and spray a little with WD40.
Use a tooth pick with a little auto solvol and WD40 on the tip and scratch around and clean the metal plates/connections within the switch body.
Wipe everything with a soft cloth or tissue type cloth (bog roll is ideal).
Re assemble making sure W shaped pins are correct way up and function correctly.
Check that electric plug pins are clean and spray with WD40.
Re connect and if you are lucky like me you will have a fully functional window again.

Once again, with a week, you guys have turned up trumps! I did as Steve suggested (except when I 'carefuly' separated the body, bits flew in all directions)
Anyway there was no corrosion but two of the pins were burnt. In addition, one of the little white cams on the rocker switch has been shortened a bit, (by overheating?) I used Autosol and WD-40 and re-assembled the whole lot. Lo and behold the window goes up and down; down more smoothly than up. I'll look for a replacement switch now that Steve has saved me a lot of time and trouble changing a perfectly serviceable window actuator/regulator.
Thanks a million!

If its the drivers side switch pannel, I have one spare, not sure if I have the passenger side, but I will have a look later.

Thanks Dave. It's the passenger's side switch that is dicky. I've covered it with tape for now. The driver's side switch can be used to control the window.
