(Home) Exhaust valve sticking

my exhaust valve is sticking on the 2nd cylinder is this a common fault on a model f spce cruiser d reg
the first time it happened head off all checked found nothing wrong but back together and all ok
but a bout every 3 months it sticks again I drain the oil add new oil and additive and seems ok
is there any cure for this as the first I know is when it starts to misfire

Not one I've heard of before.
Suspect a bent valve stem, and/or blocked oil feed. Maybe, but I doubt it the cam follower/push rod getting stuck, oil not draining away?

how do I cheek if the oil is draining away
would the rest have been checked when the head was off and in the local head shop

You would need to strip it down and look for signs of wear.
If the valve were removed from the head and reseated they may have been checked, but re-fitting could have cause damage.
Have you used engine oil flush at oil changes?
Do you use a good quality oil?
The problem is, with the valve stuck open, the seating will get damaged the valve will get damaged, if it is not already, and worst case the piston/cylinder could get damaged.

semi synthetic oil
all ways flush and add tuff that unsticks valves from local carparts
the head was checked and every thing was ok the rods where check at he same time and when it was put back together it ran perfectly for about three months (I will have to work out how many miles)then it started to misfire again so i changed oil and added aditive and it ran perfectly again

the first sign that it is staring to stick is that it misses when cold then runs ok when engine warms up

I guess that you have checked that the valve is sticking by removing the rocker cover?
Is the rocker rocking?
Is the spring recoiling?

I hope you won’t mind me butting in guys, but if the head has already been off and checked, could it suggest the problem is somewhere else?
Intermittent faults are always difficult to track down, and I can’t help thinking that maybe there is something else that could result in these symptoms? I'm no expert but could it be an HT lead, coil or carburetion problem perhaps?
Just a thought.

rocker rocking spring working just the second exhaust valve not opening

had a very good moble tuner outlast time it happened (much swearing has he could not back up to the front to connect up) spent an hour tuning and he check the valve pressure which confirmed it is sticking

In that case head off and replace valve, before it breaks. Suspect it is bent but may be a blocked oilway?

- (#11501) Clive (Bristol), 17 Jun 04 07:02

think I would go with blocked oil way as valves wwas checked in local head shop and it running after I change oil
? what culd be blocking it that would not come out with oil change and would dropping sump help

If it is a blocked oilway it has got to be above the oil seal on the valve stem so the bottom end removal won't help. May be worth sourcing a heavy duty flush?

try heavy duty flush abd change tomorrow
then wait three months and see
thanks for te help
