(Home) Cam belt change

How easy is this job, looked at the manual and it seemed that after section 12 when the belt was removed there was a further requirement to take off pulleys.

My local garage want to charge £300 to do this, so the
diy option is very attractive. lastly do you actually need all the special tools?

You only need to remove the crankshaft pulley, for which you need the correct screw in type puller. I understand that the one intended for use on a mini can be adapted very easily.
New bolt and key is recommended.
£300 is way to much.

Floor out, remove radiator cowling, remove viscous coupling, slacken and remove ancillary belts, remove bottom pulley's, remove cam belt covers, set to TDC, slacken tension roller and remove belt.

Takes about 5 hours from start to finish, but don't rush it if its your first time. The manual you refer to is the RM025E one? You will also need to buy or hire a bolt on pulley remover.

Whilst your in that far, consider replacing the water pump and thermostat. Both are easily accessible at this stage, and shouldn't add much more time.
