(Home) How do you take out fan blower help

Hi All,

over the last few years I have been battling to repair my masterace 4x4 and she almost repaired apart from afew small jobs,I have over the last few months had problems with the internal fan blower on full speed it would either go fast, slow and most of the time will not work, unless I give the fan motor a direct bang with my hand and it may start up for a short while,
I need to remove the fan motor and take a close look at it,it could just need a good clean and a set of brushs or it might need a new fan with I am told by BBC Spares that a new fan has to be ordered from Japan and could cost £100 to £200.

First thing I need to do is to remove the fan unit, but I have a big cross bar in front of the fan and I need to hear from someone who has taken the fan out and how they took it out.

I am thinking about cutting the cross bar to the right of the fan and undo the bolts to the left of the fan which will let me get to the fan,we was going to weld a plate on the bit of cross bar we cut out and refit it back with 2 new drilled holes to the right and bolt it back.

but can we take the fan out without moving the cross bar,????????????????????????????????????????????????

with out the fan the air con can not work.

Dennis,

Line for line out of the Chilton manual for the Toyota Van, guess it reads accross as my Spacecruiser had the same crossmember?
1. Disconnect battery.
2. Remove screws that secure the blower motor retainer to the blower motor.
3.Remove the glove box.
4.Remove the heating duct between blower and heater matrix.
5. Unplug the blower electrical connection.
6. Disconnect the heater selector control cable.
7. Remove the nots and bolts that attach the blower motor assembly to the blower motor case and remove.

I guess what it says is you leave the outer housing (air horn?) bolted in and can remove the innerds from that? I tried to remove the whole thing from a scrapper and gave up.
Let us know how you get on.
As for the A/C can you not short circuit the blower switch?
Going to make it to the Bridport Jam?

Hi Clive

the problem is the fan motor itself,i did start off by shorting out the switch but had no effect, when i go over bumps it trys to start up and if a bang the back of the fan motor by hand it will work for a while i opened up the little inspection hatch at the back of the fan (behide glove box)and i sprayed 1 whole tin of contact cleaner into motor windings and it work fine for a week and it slowly diffed back to not work,i need to take out electric motor and see if it can be repaired or i will have to fit new fan.

summer is coming and without fan its no fun to drive,i will have a go to see if i can get it out without cutting the cross beam.

You have probably worked out how to get blower out by now
I own a 93 townace commerical vehicle
1st you need to remove indicators assembleys, between indicator and door is a cover which you pry off from door side
now you have access to remove indicator assembely, remove the one screw and pull assembely slightly towards you and then pull assembley forward, there are 2 hooks on other side assembley should come out.Do the same to other side
Now you have access to grille, the section between bumper and headlights.Grab from one end and gently pull as grill is held in with push in fittings go to other side then the middle it should come out.
Now you need to pull headlight assembley out, this should be straight forward, have a look at panel that sits over headlight assembley, there should be 4 nuts about 10mm in size, these hold blower housing you will also see the air intake which is part of blower housing
Best of luck it still is awkward to get out
