Hi all, could one of you gurus please send me the page out of the manual to do with the timing chain and tensioner removal/replacement.
Many thanks in advance.

Which engine/ vehicle?

Sorry Dave, It's the 3y engine. It took a while to get back here, I been contemplating my options. Whether to go for a later model or not, and whether I can afford it more like.
Thanks for your help. I got a slight rattle on start up, remimiscent of the old 'a' series mini timing chain. Before anybody says 'BIG END' no it's not, I know what a big end rattle sounds like, having driven too many clunkers in my time.

Devon Dave,
I'll get my manual back Thursday, ready to take to Bridport. You would be welcome to have a look at it there.
Working from memory it's remove the timing cover, lock the two gears in place and release the tensioner to remove chain. Simple nuts and bolts until one of the cogs move!

So, if I sit underneath the 'Beast' I can do this without too much trouble, eh?
Do I have to remove the radiator?
Is there anything else that I need to know?
(on a need to know basis that is)....
Thanks guys and gals.

You may have to remove the fan and move the belts out of the way. Dead easy on the 3Y. If you do remove the rad it will give you loads of room. You do know that it is a double chain and not known to die. Perhaps just getting the cover off and lubricating the tensioner may cure the noise?

Yes that's what I was hoping. Now I just have to pick a day where I do not have to swim under it.
Oh, by the way, I am still looking at swapping the diff unit or the whole axle for one that will give me more fuel economy. I am also going to have to do some welding on the offside sill (more like replace the lower foot of), any ideas?
I won't be able to make it to the jam mentioned because of work commitments. but after your advice I shall be able to carry out the timing chain job in an afternoon.
Many thanks

Dave

I welded most of the sills in a patchwork of plates. Grind the joints down, a few thick coats of primer and top coat and it looked very smart. The little bit next to the sliding door required the door to be removed for welding, being the lazy whojamaflip that I am, I cut the rust treated the inside, covered the outside with masking tapr to follow the body line. Made a hole in the tape ans filled with expanding foam filler. Shape to finish plus a thin coat of plastic filler and paint as before.

Clive, I want to send you a piccy of my Spacecruiser so that you can give me your honest opinion of what should be done. Can or would you let me have your email address so that I may do this?

All the best

Dave
