(Home) Clutch master cylinder - Masterace surf

Well, I've made it a bit further with things. The dash is off (that's a job and a half, especially for a "big guy") and the clutch mastercylinder is off. It's definetely in poor shape. The question is, can these be rebuilt easily enough? Am I more likely to be able to find the seals and such at a toyota dealer than to track down an entire replacement unit? Or, does anyone have a breaker unit that I can buy off of them. I've got a rather short amount of time to get this thing back on the road. Any help you can offer would be... well... helpful.

Thanks,

Joe

What's the barrel like on the cylinder? If it's scored then forget it, look for a replacement. If 'gummed' up then some very fine, and I mean fine, wet&dry paper should fetch it off. Use the clutch fluid to keep the paper wet. Then order a seal overhaul kit from Toyota. Tell 'em it's VOR (vehicle Off Road) which should be obvious really. If available in UK then should get it within 2 days, about 5 if they source from Belgium and between 5-10 days from Japan.

Have you got the cylinder stipped down? How does it come apart as I could not see how to strip mine down hence ended up with a new one. Well done with removing the dash!

Assuming the cylinder is the same as the Spacecruiser, it is a Toyota multi fit item, may even get an overhaul kit from a local factors.
If you pull the rubber boot back you can just see the spring clip that holds the push rod on. Ping it off and remove push rod. The piston may now drop out or require a hand with a blast of compressed air on the delivery side.
Dash is fun is it not?
