i recently aquired a masterace surf with a blown head gasket an have been looking around for a replacement if it cant be fixed or a complete engine. after a lot of research it looks like it really isnt worth bothering because it looks like it will just blow again!!! anyone know where to get a recon engine just incase i decide to go ahead ???

Rob. You might find that all that is required is for the head to be pressure tested, around a five thou skim to ensure flatness and, when you re-build, the new type of laminated gasket and new bolts. After that, a VERY detailed check of the cooling system, with the modifications as detailed in the archives, and you will have a very reliable vehicle. Complete engines can be obtained from various sources. Try BBC spares and expect to pay around £500/600 for a s/h one.
