(Home) Removing crankshaft pulley

Hi everyone,
I have just replaced the head after an overheating problem. Problem is it wont start now.
I realised that the cam belt had slipped around on the fuel pump, so I am now trying to recheck the cam belt possition.
Problem is I cant get the cranck pully undone!
I have made a special tool and used about 1 meter of leverage, but it just wont budge.
Has anyone had similar problems, got ant tips?

Jason. In the archives, there are various tips and one of them is to have your socket securely on the crank pulley bolt, with the bar/handle, firmly secured against the chassis member, ie, the right hand side, looking from the front of the vehicle. With just a momentary turn of the starter, this is likely to free the bolt.
I have never tried this and my view is that this is a method of last resort. However, if you have just had the pulley off, after the work on the head, it is puzzling that the bolt is so tight. The engine manual gives the correct torque figure and it's removal should be possible with just over the same torque.
Have you REALLY tightened the bolt in the hope that you don't have problems with a detached pulley, as has happened to a number of our fellow contibutors? When I replace this bolt, I grease it, together with the keyway, and then fit a simple locking device.

Thanks John,
This site has been a major help for me being a new owner.
I did not removed the crank pully myself when replacing the head, just got stuck at that point and wasted Sunday, trying to get our new 'car' on the road.
However I did find a way around it, assuming I had got the timing out (I was very carefull so I thought) I moved the cam belt 1 tooth in the direction that it could have slipped. I then rotated the crank very slowly and carefully a couple of times in case of any contact. All seemed ok. So I turned the key and she fired into life straight away. Fantastic.
Just got a couple of bugs now with no temperature gauge, and after warming up, an oil level warning light comes on! The level is fine but the oil looks old.
