(Home) Backfire on acceleration

my space cruiser f model started to backfire this morning it is OK whn ticking over but driving along it backfired about every 5 minutes

any help will be apreicated has have to drive telford to birmingham then back to telford then on to bridport all on friday and do not fancy it with the backfire

Two types of backfire too lean a mixture and too rich.
Too lean check all vac connections, fuel filter, air filter and ignition timing.
Too rich maybe a carb/ignition problem.
Any worse uphill?
Have you touched any of the above to account for a backfire?
Is the exhaust ok?
Have you tried a new source of petrol?

Backfires are usually caused by unburnt fuel getting into the exhurst system and then igniting, this is usually caused by overrich mixture or one of the sparkplugs is not igniting the fuel as it passes through the engine, some spark plugs can start to fail at high engine revs and pass fuel, when does it mainly happen...

it was backfiring on accelation and low speed this was on the way to work no hills so all on flat it did not happen on the way home could it be one of thise things caused by damp weather
