(Home) Front aircon problem

Hi, I have my 1993 Townace Super Extra 2.0 Diesel Automatic Transmission. After getting my Imported reconditioned Van for almost 4 months on Local supplier here in manila. I encounter twice this aircon problem. When I start the engine and turn on the fron aircon and start driving the aircon works, but afteran hour or more suddenly the cool went off, only fan are running. I tried to turn off the aircon for a minute or more and turn on again the aircon, again only fan are working. So when I arrived home I turn off the engine for almost 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes I turn on the engine again and try to turn on the aircon again and it works fine again. I encounter this twice this week and I jsut want to find out what seems to be tha problems. Hope anyone can give me inputs.

It could be electrical, a relay failing under load for example, or it could be as simple as the gas level being slightly low...

Vic,
There are a few possible problems that could be causing this. It could be a blockage somewhere in the system that is gradually building up internal pressure to the point where the pressure switch cuts out the system. When you turn it off for a long enough time the internal pressure will drop off and equalise and the system will come back to life again, until the fault returns.
Or it could be a fault with the anti-icing sensor which is allowing the evaporator to get too cold, which will have a similar effect. Again, when left off the evaporator will warm up and all will be well again until it is run again. If it is as simple as low gas, then the system will not cool well at all.
I think you are going to need to take it to a good air con repairer for a proper test.
By the way, my wife is from the Philippines and says hi.
