The "clunk", when on full lock, has been well documented here and, instead of going to Toyota to replace the plastic stop covers, the blob of grease is a good, if temporary solution. However, Wilkinsons, Woolworths etc, sell knobbly, rubber, walking stick ends, they only cost 25p each and, if you get the 15mm size, they fit the stop bolts perfectly. They don't last as long as plastic but, at 25p each, they can be replaced at each oil change and they completely eliminate that mysterious metallic clunk.
