(Home) Hi pitch noise

I have just noticed a high pitch whestle noise on my f model space cruiser
it is mainly there on tickover

Could well be a leak in the exhaust system, pay attention to the join between the inlet and exhaust manifold.
Otherwise I'd look at anything that has a drive belt, alternator, pulleys and power steering pump if the front of the engine, the rear is most likely to be gearbox clutch etc.

I knocked a plug lead off (being clumsy) and noise got louder
can not be clutch as car automatic (should have said)
noise is around carb area
could a gasget have split

With it ticking over press a screw driver or length of wood on all the heat shields, you may be lucky and find it that way. Next check the manifolds for loose missing nuts, and that the carb is bolted down tight with all the vac tubes on with no splits, (don't think it is that but you never know).

I would clamp each vac tube ...one at once..to see if it affects the noise...sounds like air fron somewhere...any non return air valves (if fitted) can make a hell of a noise if they fail.
A bit of rubber pipe/tube as a listening device can help finding air noises....keep well away from the pulleys if you try this....
