(Home) Head skimed

hi can any one help me .I have a second hand head presher tested & skimmed. Can you tell me if the head will miss the valves as i have now been told that it should not have been skimmed .Dont now how much has been taken off thanx steve

Steve. Between the valves, on each cylinder, there is a machined, half round indent. This shows on an unskimmed head but, if these indents have disapeared, then the valves will come VERY close to the pistons.

thanx for the info i could still see the things u was on about ihave tried 2 time it up but it seems 2 catch maybe i have not read the book right thanx steve

yup, sounds like you're setting the timing a tooth out. The marker on the cam pulley should be level with the top of the head surface, but you might need a mirror to look straight at it...

Oh, and use the big crank pulley's marker, not the little one on the timing pulley, more accurate- assuming there's no wear in the keyway...
