Ive just bought a townace 2.0 turbo diesel and have had all the problems with the cooling system that are discribed in ace answers an spent a fortune so far only havin managed a few hundred miles an to top it all i find out that the bloody thing will only do between 25 an 30 miles to the gallon! to be honest i havent had the thing on the road to test this but if i find it to be true it will be on the market before you can say blimmin townace!!!!

MPG about right. A small gain can be made once you have mastered how to drive it.

There are reports that a properly set-up 2wd auto will return 40 mpg on a run. That's worth aiming for. But if it's a 4x4, the extra weight and drag will lose you about 5mpg.

But don't complain, even the newest MPVs (Galaxys etc) aren't doing a lot better...

Don't forget, you have a smallish engine, draging around 1600Kg of car, if 4x4, your also carrying an extra gearbox & axle, the aerodynamics are breeze blockish & you can carry 7/8 people. So I think to get 25-30Mpg out of something this good is actually excellent. And as David says, most people carriers don't retrn much better, due to size & aerodynamics.

If it makes you feel better, my alomst brand new Peugeot 406 2.0 Hdi diesel only manages 38mpg, so the poor old Townie ain't doing so bad after all.

(Trouble is David's now going to tell me he's getting 60Mpg out of the same engine in his Vitara)

Nope, Rob. I've seen nearly 41 tho, and remember the GV is an auto :^)

Rob, if that's the best you're seeing I'd suggest having the high pressure pump and possibly injectors looked at...
