Can a auto box townace be converted to a manual gearbox? As the manual box will improve mpg.

You could, but it's a massive job- everything from the flywheel back- diff, propshaft etc. Plus pedalbox, and maybe even floor panel...

And all for what? 5mpg? Sounds like too much hassle. Best concentrate on getting the best out of what you've got methinks.

Yes. I have done it with a townace 2WD 2CT. I am not convinced that it has dramatically increased fuel consumption. One of the things that I did not consider was that fact that the auto box has overdrive. Consequently the revs are higher at motorway speeds but I think it gains around town. I cannot give any figures because I tried running on biofuel but this raised the consumption. I have now filled with diesel but my new electric fan has packed up so I am off the road at present. I have done 368KM on just over half a tank so looks promising.
