(Home) Hilux surf

Hi ...can you please help me , im sure you have been asked this question many times, but im a proud owner of a hilux surf for two years now, which has been very relible.
But now the dreded M.O.T has arrived yet once again, and have been told it will not pass the test due to high emmisions...I have had the injectors done but still to smokey, now i have been told i must have the fuel pump taken out and sent to Manchester ? for repairs, and this is going to cost £600 to fix PLUS costs to take out the pump and put back in..WHAT i said HOW much...so could you give me some advice on this matter and also would it cost this much to repair?
Its not long now i have 3 weeks to sort this out this problem, or i must take my poor old Hilux off the road...If you can help please e mail me

Thanks John.

You could always try fooling with some of the sensors to reduce fuelling- tell it the outside temp is 40c rather than 20c and fuelling will be reduced greatly...

But what does it drive like- power/ economy? Smoke all the time or just at WOT? (might confirm whether the smoke is a timing or quantity issue)

Why not just throw another pump at it?

There is a Hilux Surf site over there too - I'm not sure of the address, but they may have some specific tricks for your vehicle.

Check the AceAnswers link above and try the tricks there IF the fuel pump is similar, but the later models were all electronic, so...........?
