(Home) Toyota Estima (coolant capacities)

can anyone tell me the coolant capacities of a 2.2l t/d estima, and whilst i'm here can anyone give me any pointers as to why when my engine overheats it shoots all rusty water out of the header tank, could this be down to a blocked radiator or a sticking thermostat or is it something more sinister.

So David what do you think the problem is HEAD GASKET OR WATER PUMP ? Could you give me a clue as i am lost considering i've just purchased the estima

Well, without your doing some more investiagation I'd have to take a blind stab in the dark and say head or gasket. Search the archives for more info on various tests...

As the water is rusty - I'd check that there is anti-freeze in the coolant. This will raise the boiling point.
When does it over heat, normal use motorway use or when stopped and parked up?
Trying hard to find a cheap option to a head gasket replacement.

This could also be a pressure problem. Replace the radiator cap with the new toyota float type, then check for leaks. Its not unkown for the rubber seal to expand and cause to much pressure, this in turn can cause leaky joints and even blow the radiator.
