(Home) Reconditioned ace engines - Anna

I am looking at having to get a new engine for my liteace and have had a few quotes but wanted to check other peoples experiences?? Quotes have all been approx £995 (River Mead Engineering) - including fitting and comes with a 5 yr warrantee... I'm not sure if that's good or not? If any one has any advice about supply or fitting of a new/reconditioned engine i'd love to hear it... Anna

There is a reconditioned engine on bbc spares for the same money, but then you have to add delivery and vat, then fitting is an extra cost.
£995 for a fully reconditioned engine, fitted and 5 year warrentee sounds like a good price.

Where is River Mead Engineering?
Is it 5 years warrantee that covers what?
Most I've seen are 6 months basic with wriggle out clauses all over!

It's in Twickenham and the guarantee seems genuine but with the usual get-out clauses. They said the wouldn't guarantee against engine damage caused by ancilliary components not fitted by them e.g radiator, hoses, thermostat etc.. The only thing that concerned me was it said that the existing engine has to be in a condition in which it can be used by them - and if not surcharges will apply. Well i just heard that my cylinder head etc is shot to pieces, cracked in 6 different places - would that mean they could not do anything with it??? Too confusing...

Are these guys taking your engine apart?
Worried now that they are and surcharges will mount up!
What was wrong with the engine in the first place - cracked head will lead to overheating/high oil use/smoking/lack of power - maybe a new head is all that is all you need?

If the company is one of those that has big adverts in the front of the Exchange and Mart then beware because there are an awful lot of cowboys there, and they seem to gather en masse in Twickenham.

Put this into Google and hit the Groups button for more reports:

Thankyou so much for that advice - i think you may have just rescued me from being 'done'! The company was most definitely one of those cowboys.... Van is currently with Toyatatec M&G and i think i may keep it that way and let him do the lot - he seems to know what he's doing. He said the head is cracked in about 6 places and heat has caused other engine damage...Does that sound likely?? Thanks again, you're all great!! :)
