(Home) Insurance in northern ireland

could anyone out there tell me of any import friendly insurance companies who do cover for n. ireland, at the moment we can only find one, they are not very cheap and if they decide to pull out of import insurance we will be left with a nice ornament in our driveway.

Very few, Ivan. Who are you with at the moment?

BTW, were the MOT and holiday OK?

yes David car only failed on handbrake and got it sorted ok, holiday was great the car didnt miss a beat, we travelled 2000km, what a great wee bus, the most versatile vehicle i have ever owned and fun to drive into the bargain,
insured with Quinn Direct at the moment but if i can find someone cheaper for next year then i will go for that.

Don't think I ever actually used Quinns- they gave me a pretty good quote, but there was always some technicality that they had trouble with to actually grant me cover (weather, dog's age, colour of tyres, something like that?)
I was with Hughes for the first year and then switched to Privilege Direct (Same firm as Direct Line- DL won't cover NI but PD will...).

I've had very good luck dealing with Oakland Insurance in Larne for the past couple of years (for the Suzuki and Sandy's car). Don't know what their attitude is to Imports but might be worth a try...

Max, Ards is still off AFAIK. Others have had shorter waits (I hear) for Omagh and Mallusk. Or you could take advantage of one of the ferry offers- daytrip to Stranraer c/w pre-booked MOT appointment. PSNI have implied that they won't look too hard at you if you've a date, but I'd guess the DOE cameras won't be so nice to you...

Re the insurance, you gotta ring round. The companys change their policy on imports on a yearly basis it seems, and some brokers may choose not to help either. You might ring some of the dealers selling imports for a recommendation?
