could anyone please tell me where on a townace(89)2 litre turbo diesel, the pipe on the top of the fuel pump is leaking fuel and the engine will not starteverything else seems fine

Not quite sure what you are asking Andrew. I think you are saying you have a fuel leak from the pump. This is apparently a common fault requiring a replacement O ring and is covered in the archives.

thanks ian for the reply.Im still no nearer to townace heaven.visited ace handbook and looked at the fuel pipes diagram.on the fuel pump under the four pipes there is a short pipe on top of the fuel pump that has no number on it.when i turn the key should i have fuel spurting out. any more info would be gratefully recieved as i have had the vehicle for 12 months and off road for last 6. andrew

The inlet pipe is at the rear of the pump as I recall. If there's a leak there, you'll not see fuel spurting, but the engine will be damn near impossible to start as the air getting in will stop fuel from being sucked through the filter from the tank. Check methodically from tank, through filter to pump, and from the pump and injector return rail back to the tank. You should be able to manually pump (using the primer atop the filter) fuel up from the tank, through the filter, and through/ out of the pump...

thanks for reply . using the primer i get fuel going through filter through pump , and through to each cylinder back on the return but should i get fuel spurting out of the pump via the small tube at the top of pump.

Small tube at top is like a "T", no? There's a short hose from the injector return rail to the return pipe on the pump. That should all be linked up tight and leak-free. A leak there would allow the fuel to syphon back out of the pump when standing...

Or maybe you're talking about the nipple on the very top of the pump coming out of the round chamber? That's the boost compensator, and no, you won't see fuel there- it's open to the manifold to sense turbo boost.
