(Home) Clicking relays behind dash

I've just completed my head replacement and cooling system overhaul, stat. mod., Mason alarm etc. Running beautifully save for clicking from relays behind the glove box. Behind the glove box, to the left is a 20 amp fuse connected to an array of(4) m4 (silver)relays and another black plastic relay. these all click and are quite hot to touch. Also, two other silver relays behave similarly these are b4 relays. This happens after the engine warms to near running temp.

I installed glow plug sensor wrongly to start and there was a terrible buzz from the no 1 glow plug relay, (tested it according to manual and it is ok)I've not been able to locate the #2 glow plug relay however. I've since connected one earth wire to the injector line array. I'd had it connected to the end of the resistor with the other thin wire to start, but now the glow plugs seem to work fine. 10 amps dropping to 7 or so at the plug upon start up.

I've been over the site but cannot come up with anything concrete, am I barking up the right tree with this? I should also mention that clicking has been heard from this area pre-overhaul, but not so consistently.

Thanks loads to all who help feed this addiction :)

Hmm. Could be an a/c issue- most of the relays under the dash are a/c related. Is yours 2wd or 4x4, is the a/c turned on, do you have climate control, and are there any fans running?

No.2 g/p relay is inside the "B" pillar, as is the controller. Is the g/p light coming on?

The only earth wire in the vicinity of the g/p bank should connect to the injector clamp. There shouldn't be any earths going to the resistor...

A thought. Toyota use a lot of earth- switched circuits. I wonder if your earth wire connected to the g/p resistor is taking one of the circuits high enough to make one or more control relays drop out?

mine is a 4wd auto w/ front and rear a/c

a/c is on and fans are running over horizontal radiator. i'll experiment with the problem with a/c off. i'm not sure about "climate control", there is a thermostatic dial connected concentrically to the fan control on the dash.

my glow plug light is functioning normally, with only one wire connected to the injector clamp. all the other wires/insulators between the resistors seem in their logical places.
