(Home) Overheating

my 1996 model f space cruiser over heated
there are no leeks I can find and none of the symptoms of a blown gasket

were is the thermostate located (i always thought is was in the casing under the water fill cap) and will the cap from a local car parts be sufficant to replace the old cap

Thermostat is on the housing on the engine end of the bottom hose. Rad cap best go for a Toyota one.
After the first overheat did you replace with anti-freeze mixture? Have you checked for oil in the water and water in the oil?
Refill slowly - dribble it in, check that the pipe in the expansion tank is ok - not soft or slimey, if it is replace it.
Run it with rad cap off just to check there are no fine bubbles (likely to be head gasket if there are). If all fine put cap on and get it up to normal temp and check for leaks. I find it best to do this in the dark and use a torch to detect any fine spray/evaporating coolant.
Best of luck.

after the first overheat just plain water
no oil in water or water in oil
expansion pipe ok
the only bibbles where when I was filling up with water I assumed this was airlock escaping
(I am hoping its just worn rubber on cap)
thanks clive

phoned toyota for a rad cap
they said there were two types of rad fitted to space cruisers and need to know the make?

where on the rad will the make be written

If your radiator cap is rated to 0.9 BAR then the type to get is the Float type, part number 16401-64501. One of the tabs on the cap should have 0.9 stamped on it

dear i am planning to buy and change my 2c toyota diesel engine of year 1988 in my corolla 86 hatchback with 2ct engine to get more power and acceleration.but i am double minded about 2ct ,as the engine has history of over heating (learned from various people using it in their town ace )i am afraid to meet the same fate.pl help me about choosing a diesel engine.

The 2CT isn't so bad in other applications. It's worked a bit hard in the townace and the cooling system is marginal at the speeds we drive them at. While car applications of the 2C/2CT do still have head gasket problems they are more rare. Bear in mind that all diesels occasionally do in their HGs- Peugeot, Ford, Isuzu,VW they all do it.

What might be more of an issue for you is actually cramming the 2CT into a Corolla. What generation is it? CE80? Whether you get an engine out of a camry (turbo on top) or a townace (turbo below exhaust manifold) I'll bet you have SEVERE clearance problems with the bulkhead/ firewall...
