(Home) Central locking

I am a fairly new owner of a Townace. When I lock the drivers door, all the doors lock. However, when I unlock the drivers door, only that door unlocks - all the others stay locked. Is this a fault, or not? Cheers.

Not Mike,
it's an anti-hyjack thing. There should be a button on the drivers door that unlocks all the doors. If you want central unlocking on the key, it has to be retro fitted. Alarm systems are the other option.

Thanks, Dave. Yes its an excellent idea for preventing hijackers/bagsnatchers etc. Believe it, or not, I've used that button on the door many times for locking all the doors from the inside but never thought about using it for unlocking them (what a plonker).

Just bought me a TownAce Super. 'Til I manage to get a manual there's a couple of things that knowledgeable folks out there may be able to help me with.
1 Re-con engine and rad fitted within last 2 months.Low level of expansion bottle water lamp came on - fixed by thorough clean of switch housing. Re-filled bottle using ordinary H2O, and probably a bit too much. Result - when I got home the bottle was empty. Checked rad level, and seems OK. Washer on expansion bottle cap was 90 degrees out, so blocking off a hole. Have only done 10 miles since, but seems OK. OR could the fault be more serious?
2 Dash "door open" warning stays on. Any ideas as to which doors/locks this works from - or via a relay perhaps. In fact most of the inside lights do not work properly, but I'm struggling in the dark as I've no idea as to which switch/door operates which light, including the footplate light at the base of the side sliding door.

door open light should go out if you lock the doors with the switch on the door, have you checked the postion of the swichs for the internal lights, sometimes the rear micro switch in the taillock can cause problems...

Gordon,
Have a look through the Ace Answers Archives.
Plenty of info on what may be happening from a simple fix to major head and wallet aches.
The hole allows coolant to escape so may have been placed to stop that and hide a problem. First thing would be to check the rad cap, check that the tube/pipe inside the expansion tank is fit and well then follow the advice on AA.

Gordan and Neil. I thought I had the same problem with the 'door open' warning light. I eventually discovered that it stayed on if the tailgate was not 'locked'. Try using the door lock switch on the drivers door panel to lock all doors from the inside - hopefully the warning light will go out. (ps. I've only just found out that you can also use the same swich to unlock all the doors from the inside - see above)

I've just bought a hi ace super custom 1995 & I love it. Problem is it is fitted with an incomprehensible alarm system. I am a bit of a technophobe & am having problems working out the 'logic' of the system. Has anyone got any idea as to how I can find out? Is it possible to have it totally disarmed? I like a simple life!
