(Home) Water pump & timing belt

Hi to everyone here, this is my first post on the board. I have just got a 89 Townace 2wd a month ago and have found this site to be very informative for a lot of little things I was doing i.e.. how to get rid of the 100kmh alarm and how to take of the front grill to replace the fog light bulbs. Right down to my problem, I have been using it running around town with no problems until a week ago when I went on the motorway with it for the first time. I noticed the temp getting high so I slowed it down from 70 to 50 and it cooled back down. With all the overheating problems I have read about I decided to flush the system out. I flushed it out 5 times in total including back flushes but the problem was still there. I was loosing water somewhere but the plastic container was always up to it’s Full Line couldn’t find any leaks anywhere so decided to go down the Toyota dealers and get a New Radiator Cap (16401-64501) Thermostat (90916-03046) Thermostat O-ring
(16325-63011) and some anti freeze. Once I had fitted it all and bled the system all seemed OK until I fitted the new Rad cap then I noticed a lot of water flowing out from the bottom of the engine. I know anti freeze tends to find small holes water doesn’t find so
I went off to buy some Wynnes stop leak (the 1 in the white tin) that didn’t help and now the water is poring out from under the van. So I take it that the Water Pump has gone, it must of had a small leak in it but with the old Rad cap on it wasn’t pressurizing the system enough to see it because if I take the new cap off and run the engine at idle there isn’t water flowing out. Right here is my Question can Anyone E-mail me and tell me how to change the Timing belt as I’m going to be taking it off to do the water pump I might as well change the belt. How hard is it to do on these vans as I haven’t got a Engine manual for it. So if anyone called please tell me now to do it that would be great, as I don’t want to mess up the timing and blow the Engine.
Or if there is anyone around the Tranmere area who has got the Engine manual they could let me use for a couple of days.

where abouts under the van is the water escaping? The pump is behind the cambelt covers.

it's coming from the bottom pully just under the timinig belt cover. So I take it it is the water pump.

It looks most likely I'm afraid, yes.

I have striped down the van to do the water pump and timing belt but I can’t undo the bolt on the bottom pulley as the Engine still turns. How do you lock it so I can undo the bolt

Well, you can either jam something into the ring gear after removing the starter and then grunt on it, or brace the end of your breaker bar against the body and give the engine a nudge over on the key (carefully!) letting the starter do the work for you!

I've done this a couple of times by wedging a long 1/2in extension between one of the holes in the pulley and [the hollow end over] a bolthead or something on the chassis member underneath - seems no more risky than the other methods but the engine went a long way over on its mountings before the nut loosened the first time. A good length of pipe helps get the leverage.

Thanks Guys, got it off now. I got a length of steel bar and drilled 2 holes in it to match up to 2 of the 4 bolt holes on the out side of it, then just wedged it to the floor then undid the center bolt. It’s all striped down now bits everywhere. Got a new pump and belt for it, going to start putting it back together tomorrow couldn’t find a timing mark on the Crank
so I take it the Key faces up and the mark on the Cam sits at 3 O’clock then the diesel pump pulley lines up with mark on the water pump ? The only other things I don’t know are the torque setting for all the bolts.
