(Home) Non starter

Hi Guys, I've got a 1989 F Reg Spacecruiser that is having problems. If I haven't driven the car for a couple of days it wont start at all and will only start from jump leads, I replaced the battery when this first started but straight away the same thing happened, I'm looking to sell the car soon and want to get this sorted before I do, anyone got any ideas, any help would be really appreciated cheers.

Andy, may sound a bit obvious, but is alternator warning light staying on when driving when it did start - if not, is bulb blown for warning light? If bulb is ok, sounds as if alternator could be u/s, although check alternator belt is at correct tension to start with.

May be worn contacts in the starter motor, happy with a fully charged battery but not when it's lost it's edge, worth a look along with the leads and their connections.

The other more obvious problem is likely to be a dirty contact between the battery clamps and the battery posts. Use emery paper to clean both the inside of the clamps and the outside of the posts. Then coat both liberally with vaseline or other high melting point grease to stop further oxidising.
