(Home) Turbo gasket part numbers

Hi, have gone through the archives, where David Miller said that these are the part numbers:
17278-64030 turbo to manifold
90917-06045 downpipe
17173-65050 manifold to head
17279-11010 wastegate elbow

I rang up ajay autoparts and they don`t have those numbers listed, so I need to know what book these numbers come from/where I can source them in the UK.

My Ace has a grunty sound to it atm, with loss of power. I thought it might be another hole in the exhaust, but the guys there said it`s the turbo gasket. My mechanic doubts that, as they are made of metal. He thinks it`s one of the other gaskets just before the turbo (lot`s of soot underneath driver`s seat). He`ll take a look and replace all the gaskets at the same time as he says it`s a pain to do the job and it`s better done all at once. Any advice on this and any engine diagrams?

Cheers,

Gary

Toyota numbers, straight off the parts database...

they are indeed metal multilayer gaskets, but they tend to delaminate over time.

Sorry for my ignorance, but can these part numbers be quoted to anyone, or are they only useful if calling Toyota?

If they are only for Toyota, are there any part numbers that someone like Ajay would recognise? ADL Blueprint don`t do these gaskets it seems (according to ajay).

Where would be the best place to get some please. Ace Ansers has some, but not that I can see for the engine (manifold/turbo area).

nope. Toyota part numbers are generally for Toyota dealers. ADL tend not to sell individual gaskets, rather kits, and as turbos aren't meant to be rebuilt by non-specialists, they'll not all be in a kit anyway. ADL would however recognise the toyota part number for a gasket kit, I'd guess.

But...

The head to manifold gasket is the same as any other 2C- your local factor should be able to supply.

The downpipe gasket differs from that used in other 2CT applications, it's a different diameter to that of a Camry, for example. Again, your local factor should be able to supply- bring a pattern.

The two turbo gaskets aren't unique, but you won't get them anywhere other than the dealer (or maybe a turbo specialists) or, you could buy a sheet of copper and make your own.

Oh and for diagrams, I believe there's an online collection of images from the parts cd - on the russian site perhaps? Can't quite remember. Alternatively, some kind soul might have a spare copy of the cd...

Toyota part numbers are as you would expect for Toyota parts. Any outfit making copies should be able to cross reference them. The manual isn't too hot on diagrams but it is a relatively straightforward job. Your mechanic should easily be able to suss it. I've stripped mine down twice in the last few months. IIRC the manifold to head gasket is about £20 from Toyota. The turbo to manifold one should come in at a lot less.

Got onto Toyota. Some part numbers have changed. I`ll also give the prices as of August 2004:

17278-64031 (turbo to manifold. New part no. (was 64030)) - £ 5.62 ex
90917-06045 (downpipe. same part no.) - 77p ex
17173-64080 (manifold gasket. new part no. (was 64050)) - £21.93 ex
17279-11010 (turbine outlet turbo gasket (they had trouble with this part number, which was said on here to be the wastegate elbow)) - £27.55 ex

04175-64023 (complete turbo gasket kit, 5 gaskets, including the ones above) - £39.33 ex

I also got 4 manifold bolts for 66p ea ex, plus 3 other bolts they said were needed for @ £1.60 ex ex.

Couldn`t get hold of an engine manual yet from toyota.

Will see how much the mechanic charges me after tomorrow.

My mechanic rang me, saying that he had to stop working on the engine as some bolt or other is broken and stuck, and he doesn`t have a drill long enough to reach it. So he`s ordered a right-angle drill to get it out, and will start work on it again on friday. This is the first townace manifold/turbo gasket he`s done, and he`ll be replacing most of them prior to the turbo gasket itself (he says he doesn`t have the tools for the turbo gasket job).

Any idea how much it should normally cost for a mechanic to do the gaskets?

Cheers.

Not much of a mechanic if he can't get the manifold off the turbo. Tricky yes but not that difficult. I used a ratchet spanner with flexible head on mine. Even Halfrauds would sell you one.

- (#12725) Ian Dunse (Derbs), 26 Aug 04 02:11

Any rough idea of how long it takes and much?

Cheers.

- (#12725) Storm, 27 Aug 04 10:02

How much for what? Think the prices for gaskets have already been given. The spanner was less than a tenner. It took me the best part of a day but I was doing other stuff as well like fabricating manifold blanking plates for the EGR. Fiddly job, much cursing and swearing but all pretty much straightforward really.

Sorry. As in my earlier message, how much would anyone think a mechanic should charge for their labour on replacing the gaskets.

It`s more than that though as I`ve just found out from him the exhaust manifold is cracked, so I`m buying one of those too. Prices in my next post below (so it`s easier for Ace Archived to catalogue it)....

- (#12725) Storm, 28 Aug 04 07:38

As it`s cracked, have had to source another exhaust manifold..... 28/08/04

This is for the 2ct, model CR21G-PQZX

The part # is 17141-64131 (used to be 64130)

2nd hand from BBC Spares: £55 + £12 p&p

New from U-Save (imported from Japan): £182.50

New from Wight Motors (01983-405551): £105.46 inc p&p

New from Toyota: £95.46 inc.

The ex-tax price from Toyota and Wight Motors is exactly the same: £81.25 , but I`ve ordered it from Toyota as it`s cheaper for me to pick up and I`ll have it quicker. I went for a new one as for the price diff I know there won`t be any invisible hairline cracks.

- (#12725) Storm, 28 Aug 04 07:44

He charged me for 4 hours worth.... £120, even though he did more hours than that. He`s a good guy, so if you have any car and are in Kent, go and see Errol at EMF Auto`s on the Isle of Sheppey.
