(Home) Dashh lights all on

Ihave an Hreg master acce surf-2L auto diesel.Suddenly one day all the dash lights came on.My garage AND rac bothsaid alternator, but its been checked and its ok. now what. They say it s almost certain to be the UCregulater--or maybe its a fuse.No-one seems to know .Ihave it back now-the garage hasn't got the time to spend on it-small family garage,- so they put it back together and delivered it back to me. The battery is only 6months old but doesnt now keep it's charge for long. Ihave a mechanic coming tomorrow who is a whiz with cars and vans so hope he can findout what's wrong. Any suggestions please. It has never gone wrong before-I've had it 14months and is a joy

Catherine. For our vehicles, an accurate wiring diagram is hard to get hold of but, your problem is quite a common one and there is much in the archives to guide you(or your mechanic). The "all the dash lights on" IS a symptom of a non charging alternator or problems with the voltage regulator. Others might like to comment on the regulator as I think that there are two types. One is built into the alternator itself and one is a seperate item in the electrical circuit. Was the alternator test done with the unit off the vehicle? A good electrical repair shop would do this for you and it would enable you to pinpoint the problem more accurately. Access to the alternator means the drivers seat and floor panel being removed but, it's a straightforward job. Have you got the engine repair manual Code RMO25E ? This has a section on the alternator and associated charging components. It can be obtained from your local dealer and it costs about a tenner.
Re spares, Intapart of Daventry would not be a million miles from you. They list two Townaces in their breaking section and they have a website.
