(Home) Engine pre-85 had different cam shaft

I've had my Townace for three years, one and a half of which it has spent at a local garage! The original head had cracked and was sent for repair, a year later I got it back incomplete. I bought a second hand head and had it skimmed and pressure tested. I've got the van back on my drive and have found to my horror that the second head has a different rocker cover, inlet manifould and water outlet. All the machinings and cast holes appear identical and the old manifould fits as does the water outlet.
Big difference is the cam! It appears the same apart from the lobe surfaces are wider. And the drive sprocket fits via a peg rather than the original's woodruff key. Will this head/cam be compatable?
Thanks, Andy.

That's a VERY early head you've got- pre-85...
If you've got the sprocket for that cam you should be OK I believe, not sure if cams interchange tho. You'd at least have to reset the shims...

I am looking to change my rocker box gasket because the old one is leaking,is it advisable to use some kind of gasket glue aswell as the new gasket, I don't want it to start leaking oil again.
I have a 1989 MasterAce 4X4 Auto.

Thanks David, the sprocket was broken by the engineering firm who skimmed the head, they must have forgotten to tell me!

I'll get a sprocket, time it all up then hand turn the crank a half million turns just to be sure.
Cheers, Andy.
