Hi,

My girlfriend owns a 'P' reg. hiace powervan, it's a diesel, I think the engine size is 2.2 litres. On the dash there are two lights, one is a red oil can which seems pretty straight forward but the other one has us completely baffled, it's an orange oilcan with wavy lines underneath it. We have had various different answers from garages but no one we asked was entirely sure what it meant!

If anybody knows what this light means we'd be really grateful to find out!

The "Red oil can" is the oil pressure light. This comes on when the engine is switched on, extinguishes when the engine starts and indicates that there is the necessary oil pressure in the system. The other oil can is a level indicator. When this shows, it indicates that the oil level, in the sump, is low and needs topping up.
