(Home) 1C/DOX 1800cc engine clearances/torques

this isn't a town ace question, but i'm desperate! i have a 1987 toyota corolla CE90 diesel, engine type is DOX 1800cc (which i think may have been used in some vans). I have been having great difficulty finding the appropriate book (looked on the internet for ages, rang lots of technical book shops here in new zealand, etc.), as toyota corolla manuals (when they describe what models are covered) generally exclude the diesels. i have also been told that the manuals generally don't cover the diesel, because that model wasn't sold in the usa or europe. i need to know the torque settings and tappet/valve clearances - blown head gasket. i can't even use the existing clearances as a guide, because they're all over the place (from 6 to 11 thousandths of an inch on both intake and exhaust - no uniformity at all). if you don't have this info, do you have any idea where i might get it?

if you can help, i would be most grateful.

dox doesn't sound like a toyota engine code. plus your ce90 tells me that it was fitted with a c series engine- 1800cc makes it a 1c. that's the same engine series as used in townace and liteace and is covered in the factory manual rm025e.

so it's shim-and bucket top end, and clearances (in thou) are intake 8-12, exhaust 10-14. you'll be glad to know that these engine grow in height as they heat up, so i'd leave the clearances well alone...

relevant torque settings are in the archives here, but...
cam caps, inlet manifold 13ftlb
exhaust manifold 34lbft
cam pulley 65lbft
headbolts are stretchbolts, spec is 33lbft, +90deg, +90deg
