(Home) Fuel gauge readings

HI, I have just brought a 1992 Townace Super Extra 2.0td import, up until a couple of days the fuel guage was working fine i know this as i put £15 diesel in it and it went in a day due to the milage. I put a further £30 the following day and the needle showed that the tank was full. I have since driven 137kms and the needle on the fuel gauge has not moved. I have noticed that the needle does not return to the empty point when the ignition is turned off, is normal for these.
Could this be a faulty sender unit in the fuel tank?
Or a faulty fuel guage?
Or is it just that it takes a bit of time for the fuel to used before the needle moves.

Stuart. A total of £45 for diesel is, I suppose, around 55 litres so, you are probably getting good MPG figures and there was more in the tank than you thought. The tank holds 60 litres and, yes, the fuel gauge indicates the tank quantity, irrespective of the ignition switch. I think you will find that the level indication takes a while to drop from the full reading.
Conclusion. Go out and enjoy a lot more miles in this splendid vehicle and then the gauge will start to indicate.
