(Home) Fauilty rev counter space cruiser

for the last couple of days when I start the car the rev counter goes round to red and jerks up and down around there for a while (the engine revs are normal) then settles down to normal
2 questions be fore I stat messing about
1. does the rev counter work on cable Like speedo
2. how would I go about finding whats wrong

It's electrical and I think it is run off of the dizzy, happy to be corrected. Have a spray round of ignition sealer and see of that helps.
Not the end of the World if it stops working, in fact I'm not sure why these slow Aces have a rev counter?

yes the over heating was rad csp rubber vertually split in half

ant the rev counter in case your speedo dont work

I had this prob on my hiace (deisel) the other week...pushing various dash buttons made the thing twitch a bit....clive suggested a short behind the dash at woodvale...on reflection it happened on a day when the aircon had been on for about 4 1/2 motorway hours......as the dash was like a fridge figured the vent tubes were not airtight and the extreme cold on blobs of solder/circuit boards may have been attracting some condensation....providing shorts....well that was the theory...its been fine since.
Curiously it was much more enjoyable driving with no rev counter....no reminder of how hard it was working to keep the traffic flow....
