(Home) No ace answers

AA has ceased to exist for a number of folks out here.

It is a fantastic and invaluable resourse.
Can some one please please please make a non-browser specific text only version?

For some wierd reason the scroll bars disapear when using IE 5.1.7 on a MAC with OS9.2.2
I can not upgrade to IE 6 because of politics outside of my control

Best Regards

Paul

Where it says 'scrolling = no' change it to yes!!

</script></head>
<FRAMESET name="homefset" rows="*,0">
<FRAMESET name="upperfset" cols="*,0">
<FRAME name="fr10" border=0 src="ia/ifindx.htm" onLoad="siteload('a')" scrolling=no>
<FRAME name="fr50" border=0 src="iaifindx.htm" onLoad="siteload('b')">
</FRAMESET>
<FRAMESET name="lowerfset" border=0 cols="0,*">
<FRAME name="fr70" border=0 src="iaifindx.htm" onLoad="siteload('c')">
<FRAME name="fr90" border=0 src="iaifindx.htm" onLoad="siteload('d')">
</FRAMESET>
</FRAMESET>
</HTML>

I've noted this. I understand your suggestion and will implement it, and let you know when I've done it so you can test it but it doesn't look like the answer to me.

www.townace.com/ia/ifindx.htm which goes into the first frame IS the text-only version of the archives.

... better?

Sorry to continue this topic BUT

Using Netscape v7.1 I have all the links across the top and all appear to work although they do go to text only pages but now with scroll bars. BUT the bottom half of the page is blank along with the links down the left hand side

Using IE v6 everything appears to be okay but the links across the top to the handbook etc don't work. - clicking on them does nothing.

regards

Jim

My plan is within 3 or 4 days to revert to the home page that I used until a couple of months ago. Looks the same but works very differently.

Why did I change it? Indirectly as part of moving to a scheme where I would issue a unique access code to "members" who had made a contribution to Ace Answers - usually a financial one. However this required that users have cookies enabled which is so often not the case that I have to abandon this route anyway.

Does that mean I'm not number 1 any more? :-(

I'll try and salvage something from the registration scheme, where you're no. 1 Dave. Not having a spare Ace I have to make repairing mine a priority!

Watch out for new look ace Answers over the weekend - be patient with teething troubles. Post comments and complaints in this thread.

Don't worry about the #1 thing Dave, its only tongue in cheek.
I notice that there is a new, or is it the old front page to the archives this morning, and no access to townace.com it just redirects to http://mpvi.net/ia/index408.htm from here I can't access the hand book or any of the other pages on townace.com

Its a new front page that looks a lot like the old front page of the Archives.

All the pages from the handbook or previously on the front of townace.com are now within the folders that used to hold use the Archives.

For example in the "Buying" folder (within Ownership) you can find "Why be an Ace buyer/Owner" which used to be "Why Ace" on the front of townace.com. In the listing this type of page has a "!" at the left.

Also there, as before, are the archived postings regarding buying (with a "*") and, now, links to other web pages (with a "w") which used to be on the Reference page. I'm moving all the libraried pictures into these folders too, you can see some in Engine Mechanical (with an "o"). Pictures are still linked off the old Handbook ("!") pages until I move them.

My aim now is to put everything on one subject in the same place. I have also added new sub-folders and doubled up some - e.g. Alternator comes under Electrics as well as under Engine.

Constructive comments welcome.

it's consolidated index turned out almost as planned. i changed the characters used as margin icons to be clearer, * is against my own pages and bok archives have no symbol.

the lack of reaction is deafening! has it stopped working on all browsers?

The link I gave on the previous posting wasn't BoK-proof ...

Hello Dave,
my Firefox browser goes to the front page and displays the following.
Top left frame displays as usual.
Top right frame displays "No items".
Bottom left frame displays the usual folder list, but none of them do anything.
Bottom right frame displays "Starting" but nothing is actually starting or running.

My IE browser works as always.
Hope that helps.
