Thanks Jim. Yes please. My address is in your email.

It appears that there are no suitable pattern valves, must be Toyota, so don't throw usable surplus ones away!

The story, and perhaps a lesson, behind this is that the repairer who pressure tested the cylinder head replaced the valve for £9. Knowing the head is OK I then decided to repair the engine rather than replace and ordered the gaskets.

"Out-of-stock" plus a bank holiday meant that the gaskets took a week and it was only when I got the new valve stem oils seals that I immediately re-assembled the head, checked the valve clearances and found the new valve clearance was about 1mm too large and un-shimmable. At first sight it looks OK but overall it is 0.8mm shorter than a Toyota one and the head is noticeably thicker contributing to the discrepancy.

Lesson: Beware non-Toyota valves.

I don't know yet what new Toyota ones would cost as this has all happened over the weekend. I now wish that I'd temporarily assembled the head without the oils seals and found this out sooner, then I'd be driving around with aircon in this heat wave!

Thanks Jim. It has fitted in fine. Have emailed you.

For reference. Today I discover that valves are readily available from Toyota at only £16+VAT, but it was the weekend when I discovered I needed one. Shims are too, at £7+VAT, each/ouch.
