(Home) Lights and beeper

Can anyone help? Just had an engine put in my kreg townie all was well until saturday then after going over a bump in the road all the warning lights came on (at the bottom of the dash) preceeded by a constant tone, we thought this just a glitch in the system but now the lights stay on all the time as does the constant tone and when i went to start her up the battery was dead, i have out another battery in it, fires up straight away but warning and all other lights and the tone are on all the time.

I suspect it is the alternator, but could possibly be a loose connection at the back of the dash? any help and advice would be gratefully received, if its the alternator anyone got any ideas on cost and availability? Please be patient if i don't reply to you quickly but I am in the middle of putting in some decking.

Thanx Marc

Suspect the alternator, connection or drive belt loosened by the bump. Don't know about the beeper as your posh newer model has lots of extra bells and whistles, is it however the same as when you switch off and don't take the key out?

Hi Clive, come to think of it yes it is the same as when you leave the key in after switching off, wondered could it be the regulator would it be worth checking that first?

First check you have an alternator drive belt(s) at the correct tension, then the electrical connection, before pulling other bits out. Don't know if you have an internal or external regulator on your Ace.
I think we can ignore the beeper as the one that comes on to remind you to remove the key after the engine has been stopped?

Clive further to my last posting been tied up over last few days, the beeper is definately not the same as the key in ignition one it is a much higher tone, strange thing is other people i have spoken to have never come across this before, felt a bit of a pratt couldn't find the alternator!!!!! unfortunately my 18yr suggested it might be an idea to look under the drivers seat, so that is coming out tomorrow and have a good look around. ( hate smart a****d kids!!!)

The one that says the glow plugs have been on long enough and it's time to go?

I think you could be right Dave, everytime I have gone out to check the alternator the heavens have opened and I nearly drowned! so I am going to have another go tomorrow, but the more I think about it would seem more likely that the is a loose connection somewhere, from past experience on other cars i think it would have to be something to do with the alternator. Any ideas plz feel free to share them with me. Thanx
