(Home) Thermal fan clutch

I just brought my 89 4x4 diesel (2C-T) Auto. Townace to a radiator specialist and he told me my Thermal Fan Clutch isn’t working that well and it should be replaced. What should I do? Can the old one be re-built easily or repaired? Does anyone know the part #? I'm in San Fran so the part will have to be ordered from Japan.
Thanks,
Lee

I changed my fan to an electric one this is from a W reg Ford Mondeo, then I bought a thermostatic switch from kenlowe total cost £60.. If you are doing a lot of motorway driving or towing then this is the way to go, the way the rad is mounted the airflow is restricted at best.

Guys if you read carefully, Lee resides in California so a Ford Mondeo is going to be alien to him (thankfully!)

maybe it just needs some silicone oil have you tried that? i had the same problem a while ago. if it LOOKS like theres nothing wrong (fan spinning smoothly, no unusual noise, fan blades still complete) you might wana to try adding some silicone oil into the hub

it sure worked for me...cheap and easy and you instantly feel the difference (you suddenly notice the air it blows on your feet when the engine is running)

hope this helps =)

you feel it blowing when youre outside of course =)

How do you get silicon oil into the clutch, as mine does not work too well and would not mind giving it a try.

Steve. The viscous coupling has to be dismantled, ie, it is in two halves and sealed with a square section "O" ring. There are some views of the dismantled coupling on Ace Answers.
